Episode 56: Speaking our truth is hardly ever comfortable yet it will set us free. – Soulful Conversation with Nadjejda Chapoteau
This week’s episode is by far the scariest, most raw, and vulnerable one I’ve ever shared here. Even though after I was inspired to record it last Friday I said I’d share this week, leading up to sharing publicly I thought about not doing it or recording it again (I didn’t listen to the whole thing after recording it).
I came home from Zumba last Friday and recorded it. I was concerned I’d change my mind if I waited until after I shower so I recorded the video still sweaty from class.
Last week when I saw Will Smith bungee jumping facing one of his biggest fears I was inspired by him seeing the freedom he experienced. Aside from thinking maybe I’ll bungee jump one day, I kept asking myself what is something I fear I can do right now to face it. I couldn’t think of anything. I realized sharing this very vulnerable part of my story, my me too story only a few people knew about was scary to me and this was it for me.
I’ve been carrying this around for over a decade with only a few people knowing about it. I’ve felt guilty for not sharing it to avoid the same thing from happening to other women and girls and the impact it had on me often especially when hearing about other people’s me too stories.
This year has been a year of major growth for me and a very challenging one; I know growth comes with pain often. I’m choosing to not spend the last three months of 2018 with this secret; I’ve chosen to set myself free from this which is also a way of loving and honoring myself and my purpose.
My intention in sharing this aside from setting myself free is to help those who resonate with my story feel less alone and I hope some will take actions in their lives to prevent this from happening to themselves and others.
You can hear my story by watching the video below. As always I welcome your thoughts if anything came up for you that you’d like to share with me, do so in the comment section below. I know it’s a sensitive subject therefore I will be monitoring the comments more closely and will be deleting all disrespectful and insensitive comments. If you feel moved to share it with others it may help, please share it thank you.
