Episode 49: Letting our hearts break open allows us to connect to the humanity within each one of us for the greater good of all. – Soulful Conversations with Nadjejda
This week’s episode features yours truly again, me the host of Soulful Conversations with Nadjejda, Nadjejda Chapoteau. In this week’s episode I shared about the importance of letting our hearts break open through my own experience of letting my heart break open recently while reading about the latest school shooting that occurred in Texas last week on May 18th after choosing to not look at any of the coverage the same day it occurred. Doing so allowed me to empathize and feel compassion toward all affected by this tragedy. It also made me feel angry and upset this happened again because those in power aren’t willing to do anything about it.
I believe the reason why we often feel disconnected with each other is because we aren’t putting ourselves in each other’s shoes and aren’t willing to see and feel what’s happening in our world that’s painful. When we choose to allow ourselves to feel our brothers and sisters’ pain we can relate, understand and express empathy and compassion. And we can take action in our lives that will help lessen these incidences, trust me we each have more power than we think we do.
But the issue I share about also is how we’re taught by many in the spiritual industry and personal development world to focus on ourselves, not talk about or engage in low vibes/controversial/divisive topics in order to keep our vibration high and manifest the life we desire….we’ve been taught to be self-centered. And this is at the expense of other people’s suffering…
I’ve been taught the same and while I always struggled with accepting this at times I’ve found myself doing this. I’m being more mindful now. I know we can care deeply care for others, speak on social justice issues and other issues that impact humanity and care for ourselves.
I don’t have all the answers. However, I believe this is a big reason why our world is the way it is today, we’re completely disconnected with one another and protect ourselves from feeling others’ pain as long as it doesn’t directly impact us.
We can do something about it and it will take each one of us choosing to make changes in our lives where we feel we need to. It’s hard, I know and I know we can do it. I love and believe it when author Glennon Doyle says: “We can do hard things.”
